Wooden Wick Frequently Asked Questions

Is your wooden wick lit, but the flame is super small?

Sometimes a wooden wick may be drowning in wax, not allowing the wick to burn properly. Here are some tricks to help:

  1. Before you light your candle, make sure you have trimmed your wick. When you light it, ensure the entire wick is lit.
  2. If your wax has already melted to the edge of the jar, blow out your candle and let the wax re-harden. Trim your wick and re-light it.

Does your wooden wick keep going out?

This happens when the wick is too long or the candle has started tunnelling.

  1. If you haven't already, trim your wick. For a wooden wick to light properly—this is super important. Relight your candle and let the wax melt to the edge of the jar before blowing out.
  2. If there is hardened wax along the sides of the jar that won’t melt, this means the candle is tunneling. This can happen with soy wax if you don’t allow the wax to completely melt across the top. You can use a knife to scrape this wax off, trim your wick and “start fresh”.

In case you didn’t notice—trim your wick is repeated a lot above. This is the best way to ensure you are getting the most out of your candle (for scent throw and for burn time).
